Q: Tell us a little about yourself e.g. what you do for work and play.
I've been married to a wonderful guy for 20 years and we have twins who are 15 years old. My husband and I have a dairy farming business but live off a farm in Waipapa. I've been working part-time from home as a Transcriber since the twins were 18 months old and because it affords such flexibility I'm free to attend any of Alyssa's classes I choose which is great. My days usually consist of some form of exercise and I love to finish the day reading a few chapters of a novel. The weekends are for getting together with any of our fabulous friends and as a family, we enjoy anything to do with the water ...
Q: What made you decide to join Aligned Movement?
I had done pilates before and loved it. I remember I sent Alyssa a number of email inquiries months before I actually decided to go along and try it out. I've no idea why it took me so long but I've been going ever since!!
Q: What classes do you take?
I try and do 2 to 3 classes a week. I start with the 12:30 pm express class on a Tuesday, the 9:30 am Wednesday class and the 6:00 am circuit class on a Thursday morning. I've been known to do the circuit class and then go back for the express class at lunch time, I enjoy it so much.
Q: Which class is your favourite? Why?
I particularly enjoy the 6:00 am circuit class on a Thursday morning. It's usually the same group of people and we have a good banter going. It's a great way to start your day. I return home standing taller and ready for the day ahead ... (Oh, and I've done a reformer session with Alyssa - I'd totally recommend that).
Q: How have our classes helped you?
The one thing that comes to mind is that I am very conscious of being in alignment; that I'm not favouring one side over the other for example. Having done pilates previously, I started at Aligned Movement already with a knowledge of how to use my core, but what I am enjoying particularly is the mindfulness that goes along with it, the focus on my breathing, and remembering that small movements have a big impact because if I go to Crossfit, for example, I'd be all go; it's good for me to slow down. This is like my active recovery.
Q: Do you play any sports or partake in other physical activities outside of the studio?
Yes, I love to go for walks with a friend, Crossfit and running though I'm on a bit of a break from that due to a hip flexor issue. I have a group of friends who love running too and along with our partners we travel at least once a year to various places in NZ to participate in events - the last one was in Napier for the Hawkes Bay Marathon (half for me) back in May. I'm looking into Blenheim for next year and I'd love to go back to Queenstown for their event.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
Pilates is one of the highlights of my week. I always look forward to going and being taught by Alyssa. Alyssa herself is very passionate about pilates and imparts her knowledge on to us. Pilates is something I intend to do forever! Come along and give it a go ...
