Hi Team,

Happy Spring! It's hard to believe it's September already! Thankfully, we know the sun will be rising sooner making it easier to get up to our early morning classes.

We've got some great information enclosed in this newsletter, including the benefits of foam rolling and a new Client Spotlight featuring one of our Sassy Pants Dance Company members, Tash a.k.a. Tequilla Sunset.

Keeping this short and sweet, I hope you have a great week and I look forward to seeing you in the studio.

Benefits of Foam Rolling and How It Can Improve Your Workout

By Asita Fotouri | Instructor

To include a foam roller into your exercise is beneficial in many ways as it can loosen up sore muscles or tight joints, increase blood flow and circulation, therefore, delivering more oxygen to your muscles, improve flexibility and range of joint movement, reduce stress, and last but not least, prevent injury. This sounds like a magic tool that we all should use a little more, but first, let me give you a rundown on what it does.

All muscles and organs are surrounded by a fascia to hold everything together. You can imagine it like a cling wrap around every muscle. Have you ever wondered what those white stringy parts are when you cut a steak or roast? That is fascia! To hold everything together with all the things we do can sometimes be challenging and strenuous on the fascia, which is why sometimes our muscles feel "tight". It is especially difficult for our fascia to hold everything in place when there are bruises and micro cuts as they don’t heal very well

When we use a foam roller, we apply pressure to our muscles and soft tissue. This is called myofascial release just another fancy (Latin) term for deep tissue massage. By rolling over our soft tissue, we break up adhesions, knots, or scar tissue, which increase the blood flow and speed up the healing process and recovery of our muscles. Doing this on a regular basis will increase your flexibility, release the tension out of the fascia and muscles and improve our range of motion. If our body is in better shape, more flexible and relaxed, we can prevent injuries in the first place. So let’s all get together and do something good for ourselves. See you in class!
