How was your weekend? We had a great turn out for our Open Day on Saturday, and we look forward to welcoming all of our newbies to our tribe. A big congratulations to Sheldon Hall for winning our Open Day Raffle! Sheldon's won a 3-Month Unlimited Membership, an Aligned Movement t-shirt, and a pair of MoveActive grip socks worth $673!
In this months newsletter, we've featured one of our clients who you may have seen in class, Deidre. Deidre is very open about having epilepsy and has certainly inspired us to help bring awareness to our community. We'll soon be receiving some purple ribbons in honour of Purple Day on March 26th. Since joining Aligned Movement, Deidre's strength has drastically improved and we are proud to offer her a supportive environment to help her gain the strength she needs.
Keep an eye on inbox in the coming weeks for some exciting news that I cannot wait to share with you in our next update. Have a great week and see you in the studio soon!

Foam Rolling Tip for the Neck
Foam rollers are an effective rehab and training tool, available in a variety of sizes, materials and densities. Daily foam rolling facilitates postural alignment of the neck and provides pain relief by focusing on tight knots or bands within neck muscles.
Lie flat on your back.
Place the foam roller sideways under your neck
Look slightly to the left or right so the roller is hitting muscle tissue, not bone.
You can increase the intensity by gently and slowly lifting your hips off the floor.
Very little actual rolling is involved with the neck, rather the roller is placed under a sensitive or knotted spot and the pressure on that spot is gradually increased, remaining there until it releases, but no longer than a minute.
Client Spotlight - Meet Deidre
Q: Tell us a little about yourself, e.g. what you do for work and play.
A: I'm very sick with Chronic Epilepsy, so it's pretty much impossible to find work, I love to spend my afternoons/evenings doing Pilates at Aligned Movement. I've really got nothing else to do.
Q: What made you decide to join Aligned Movement?
A: I wanted to start doing Pilates again as it was something I loved doing in Auckland, Aligned Movement was what I wanted, awesome instructors/classes. I couldn't make it a weekly thing but when I moved closer, I did my best to be in at least once a week if not twice.
Q: What classes do you take?
A: I regularly take at least 2 Pilates classes either 12.30-1.15 pm or 5-6 pm. When we did the November Challenge, I did a few Yoga classes.
Q: Which class is your favourite? Why?
A: Pilates, because I enjoy being with not just the instructors but also others in the classes who are so friendly to talk to before & after class.
Q: How have our classes helped you?
A: One thing is my balance, now even when I'm unstable on my feet I can become stable quicker than I used to, despite the falls I've had in class.
Q: Do you play any sports or partake in other physical activities outside of the studio?
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
A: I just love how all of you are so friendly/helpful when something is wrong to correct us. I really appreciate that.
