Hi Team,

 

Happy winter! As the chill has undoubtedly set in, remember it's important to wear layers to and from the studio. We know our fabulous heat pump and exercises will get you all warm and toasty inside, but we need to continue to keep our bodies warm outside, especially after exercising.

 

When you step outside your core body temperature will be a lot hotter than the surrounding atmosphere. This can leave you susceptible to catching a cold. Layering up also helps prevent injury. The lactic acid that accumulates in your muscles when you exercise will also be able to readily disperse by keeping your body warm. Too much lactic acid can cause muscle cramps or pain, as well as other symptoms you'd prefer not to have to deal with. 

 

Whether it's popping some sweatpants on over your tights, or sporting a warm pair of UGG boots and a puffer jacket, we want you to keep your body safe so you can continue to enjoy your daily life. 

 

This also means we need to be extra aware when taking our bodies into any sort of stretches. If your muscles aren't loosened up before you stretch, you have a higher risk of pulling them. As we warm up, our blood vessels dilate ensuring your muscles are well supplied with oxygen. It also raises your muscles temperature for optimal efficiency and flexibility. 

 

This is why we only do a passive hamstring stretch at the beginning of my Pilates Mat classes and nothing more until we've started to move. This stretch helps awaken the hamstring which connects to your back. Plus, if you've been walking around, your legs are probably already a little warm, but that doesn't mean they are ready for the full blow stretches we normally take at the end of class. 

 

Taking care of your body is the best thing you could do for yourself. So keep warm before you carry on!

 

P.S. Don't forget we're closed this Monday to celebrate the Queen's birthday! Classes are still on Saturday though! Please schedule your classes accordingly and enjoy the long weekend.
