Meet the Team
Alyssa | Founder
Alyssa’s love of movement started early through dance, which sparked a deep interest in body mechanics while studying at Arizona State University. After a knee injury led her to discover Pilates, she became passionate about its power to heal, strengthen, and realign the body.
Following an international dance career, Alyssa settled in New Zealand with her husband and founded Aligned Movement to help others recover, rebuild, and thrive through mindful movement.
Her teaching style is light-hearted and fun, yet deeply informative. With a knack for making challenging exercises feel achievable, Alyssa blends expert guidance with a playful approach that keeps clients coming back for more.

Nicola
Originally from Northland, Nicola returned home after spending two decades abroad, where she immersed herself in new cultures, connected with people from diverse backgrounds, and, of course, savoured plenty of good food.
She discovered Pilates later in life and was instantly hooked on how it improved her strength, mobility, and overall confidence, especially as her body changed with age. That experience sparked a passion to share the benefits with others on a similar path.
Nicola now specialises in supporting older adults to move well, feel strong, and stay active. Her classes are welcoming, encouraging, and focused on helping you feel good in your body, no matter where you’re starting from.

Grace
Growing up in the Bay of Islands, Grace’s connection to nature and well-being blossomed from an early age. After travelling the world and working on sailing yachts, Grace returned home, bringing back her experience and passion for full-body health. During her travels, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Portugal.
Beyond yoga, Grace loves the outdoors, whether she’s surfing, cooking, or spending time with family and friends; her passions influence the way she approaches teaching and life.
Now back in the Bay of Islands, Grace is excited to join the Aligned Movement team and reconnect with her roots. She looks forward to bringing her enthusiasm and experience to the community.

Amanda
Amanda is a high school English teacher with a lifelong love of movement. In her younger years, she was a competitive swimmer and volleyball player, and later coached both sports. For many years, her own training centred around heavy weights and HIIT, with yoga, Pilates, and barre at Aligned Movement as her grounding balance.
After two cesareans and a persistent upper back injury, she shifted her focus toward rebuilding her core and nervous system with postnatal Pilates. Yoga became her go-to for managing stress and building resilience, both in motherhood and the classroom. The teacher in her felt called to share the benefits, and now she’s passionate about helping others move well, build strength, and reconnect with their bodies.

Todd
Todd plays a key behind-the-scenes role at Aligned Movement, supporting both our team and community. She looks after client communications, answering calls, replying to emails, and making sure everyone feels supported from their first contact.
A former, much-loved instructor, Todd has a lifelong passion for movement. She ran her own dance studio in Kerikeri for 12 years, teaching ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop.
With a background in both dance and nursing, and long-standing involvement with St John Youth, Todd brings care and connection to everything she does. Now retired from teaching and travelling the country in her motorhome, we’re lucky to still have her as an essential part of the AM whānau.
