Meet the Team

Alyssa Farrand | Founder

Alyssa’s passion for movement began at a young age. Through dance, she grew an interest in body mechanics while studying at Arizona State University. It was through a knee injury that she discovered the wonders of Pilates and all its benefits. After an international dance career, Alyssa and her husband decided to make New Zealand their home and has since created Aligned Movement to help educate others so that they too can help themselves recover from injury through mindful movement. Alyssa’s approach to teaching is light-hearted and fun yet informative. She can easily disguise a challenging exercise into something attainable at the blink of an eye.

She has a passion for movement and strength and is enjoying the opportunity to share that with others. Having been training in Pilates for the past year and a half, she is excited to share the benefits of Ballet and Pilates in her classes.

Becky Mills

After creating and running her own business for 4-years, Becky realised she needed more downtime!  At this point, Yoga found its way into her life, and she never looked back. Becky has always been active and keeping fit, but she believes Yoga fills in all the missing gaps. She took my teacher training in Tairua, Coromandel, with a small group of amazing people and has loved sharing the practice ever since. Becky will share her love of Yoga with you to create strength, balance and flexibility, helping to create a stress-free & calm life off the mat. We all need a little more quiet and downtime; life is so busy and distracting. She teaches a slow vinyasa, giving you the chance to explore within: Focusing on breath, fluidity and noticing whatever arises. She often includes a meditation in class too. Move. Breathe. Create Yoga. Reconnect with the harmony within!

She received her 200-hour yoga TTC in Dharamsala, India in 2015 and has since taught in America, Europe and Australia. She is passionate about helping people uncover their inner strength and beauty through fitness and meditation and enjoys watching her clients transform into a healthier and more authentic version of themselves. Lauren can show you how exercise improves mood, memory, motivation and concentration. She loves what she does and loves being a part of the Aligned Movement team.

Todd Horton

Todd has had a life-long passion for dance and ran her own dance studio in Kerikeri for 12 years. She taught classical ballet, jazz, tap and hip-hop. Todd believes that although how we dance is important, it’s the “why” that really matters. In 2019 she expanded her skill set and became a qualified Stott Pilates instructor. Apart from a brief sojourn in Auckland, Todd has lived in or around Kerikeri for most of her life. She holds a Bachelor of Nursing and is involved with St John Youth in Kerikeri and Northland.

Sam Turner

Sam has grown up as an active and adventurous Northlander who spent nine years training and travelling New Zealand as a competitive swimmer. She is currently studying Sport and Recreation at AUT University with dreams to work and train Para athletes in the future. Her goal is to help people gain/maintain movement to enjoy everyday activities and sport. After being out of action due to a serious injury a few years back, Sam realised that movement was an essential part of her life, and for many others. Awarded Northland’s Young Coach of the Year in 2017, Sam looks forward to dedicating her skills and abilities to helping people enjoy movement as much as she does.
