Meet the Team

Alyssa Farrand | Founder

Alyssa’s passion for movement began at a young age. Through dance, she grew an interest in body mechanics while studying at Arizona State University. It was through a knee injury that she discovered the wonders of Pilates and all its benefits. After an international dance career, Alyssa and her husband decided to make New Zealand their home and has since created Aligned Movement to help educate others so that they too can help themselves recover from injury through mindful movement. Alyssa’s approach to teaching is light-hearted and fun yet informative. She can easily disguise a challenging exercise into something attainable at the blink of an eye.

Becky Mills

After creating and running her own business for 4-years, Becky realised she needed more downtime!  At this point, Yoga found its way into her life, and she never looked back. Becky has always been active and keeping fit, but she believes Yoga fills in all the missing gaps. She took my teacher training in Tairua, Coromandel, with a small group of amazing people and has loved sharing the practice ever since. Becky will share her love of Yoga with you to create strength, balance and flexibility, helping to create a stress-free & calm life off the mat. We all need a little more quiet and downtime; life is so busy and distracting. She teaches a slow vinyasa, giving you the chance to explore within: Focusing on breath, fluidity and noticing whatever arises. She often includes a meditation in class too. Move. Breathe. Create Yoga. Reconnect with the harmony within!

Michelle

Michelle is from the Yukon Territory of Canada’s far north. She has been dancing since the age of 10, studying ballet, jazz, contemporary and hip-hop. During this time, she performed in regular performances and competed in dance competitions. While travelling the world for a few years, Michelle discovered a deeper connection to Yoga which led her to attend retreats in Thailand and India. Once back in Canada, Michelle rekindled her love for dance in Victoria, BC she began taking adult classes for heels jazz, burlesque and aerial silks. In 2020 she took her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training in the Dominican Republic, and in early 2021, she moved to NZ with her kiwi partner. Michelle is now ready to share her love for dance and Yoga with you and is excited to be a part of the Aligned Movement Team!

Taryn Zank

Taryn is a passionate personal trainer with a degree in animal biology and a certificate in Personal Trainer Level 4 from Fit Futures Academy NZ. She has been involved in sports training for over 15 years as a swim coach, Pilates instructor, and pole dance and aerial arts instructor. Her passion for human anatomy and gym training is evident, and she’s excited to turn this into a career as an instructor at Aligned Movement.

One of the most rewarding aspects of some of Taryn’s previous roles has been motivating and watching people grow into happier and more content versions of themselves, and she hopes to encourage this further for our community here at Aligned Movement.
