Meet the Team
Alyssa | Founder
Alyssa’s passion for movement began at a young age. Through dance, she grew an interest in body mechanics while studying at Arizona State University. It was through a knee injury that she discovered the wonders of Pilates and all its benefits. After an international dance career, Alyssa and her husband decided to make New Zealand their home and has since created Aligned Movement to help educate others so that they too can help themselves recover from injury through mindful movement. Alyssa’s approach to teaching is light-hearted and fun yet informative. She can easily disguise a challenging exercise into something attainable at the blink of an eye.

Amelia
Amelia’s journey has taken her from Christchurch to the beautiful Bay of Islands, where she now proudly calls home. With a strong background in both the gym and dance, Amelia discovered the transformative power of Pilates and hasn’t looked back since.
Her passion for health and fitness stems from her own personal experience. After facing injury rehab and managing a connective tissue disorder, Amelia found Pilates to be a game-changer. It has helped her build strength, reduce chronic pain, and improve her functional movement in day-to-day life. When she’s not teaching in the studio, you’ll likely find her lifting weights at the gym.

Grace
Growing up in the Bay of Islands, Grace’s connection to nature and well-being blossomed from an early age. After travelling the world and working on sailing yachts, Grace returned home, bringing back her experience and passion for full body health. During her travels, she completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) in Portugal.
Beyond yoga, Grace loves the outdoors, whether she’s surfing, cooking, or spending time with family and friends, her passions influence the way she approaches teaching and life.
Now back in the Bay of Islands, Grace is excited to join the Aligned Movement team and reconnect with her roots. She looks forward to bringing her enthusiasm and experience to the community.

Amanda
Amanda is a high school English teacher with a lifelong love of movement. In her younger years, she was a competitive swimmer and volleyball player, and later coached both sports. For many years, her own training centred around heavy weights and HIIT, with yoga, Pilates, and barre at Aligned Movement as her grounding balance.
After two cesareans and a persistent upper back injury, she shifted her focus toward rebuilding her core and nervous system with postnatal Pilates. Yoga became her go-to for managing stress and building resilience — both in motherhood and the classroom. The teacher in her felt called to share the benefits, and now she’s passionate about helping others move well, build strength, and reconnect with their bodies.

Nicola
Originally from Northland, Nicola returned home after two decades abroad exploring the world, chasing great food, and connecting with people from all walks of life.
She discovered Pilates later in life and quickly fell in love with the strength, mobility, and confidence it brought — especially as she navigated the changes that come with aging. Now a dedicated teacher, Nicola is passionate about helping others, particularly older adults, feel strong, supported, and empowered. Her classes are welcoming and encouraging, and she’s all about building confidence, one session at a time.

Leah
Originally from Northland, Leah has recently returned home after six years working as an international flight attendant based in Auckland.
With a lifelong passion for movement and wellbeing, she’s currently studying a Bachelor of Sport & Exercise while completing her Pilates certification. Leah is dedicated to helping others move well, build strength, and feel better in their bodies — and brings warmth, energy, and a thoughtful approach to every session.
Behind the scenes, Leah also keeps our studio running smoothly — checking equipment, organising props, and making sure everything is in tip-top shape so you can focus on moving with ease and confidence.
